In the midst of a pandemic and all the upheaval that accompanied it, for many, hope felt in short supply. But that hasn’t been true for me. Reasons for Hope was written with those in mind who need to connect to hope once again. Each of the eleven chapters focuses on a specific angle - from the hope in nature to the hope the youth bring to hope in humanity itself. In this book you will be reminded that even the beautiful lotus must rise through the mud.

Something unique about this book is that many of the images are from my personal collection of lotus flower photos. While living in Korea and Hong Kong, I had many opportunities to see beautiful lotus flowers on my travels and even in the courtyard at the school in Hong Kong where I taught. To me, the lotus is the perfect symbol for hope as it emerges in wondrous beauty to the surface of the water still embedded in muck and mud.
Most readers might be surprised to discover how much I infused research from my recent obsession with science including the study of cymatics (sound made visible), fractals (patterns at multiple scales) and entanglement. As an English teacher, I never imagined I would become so interested in quantum physics!
